Macquarie Geotechnical is a Geotechnical Consultancy and Construction Materials Testing company working on road, rail & mining Infrastructure projects throughout NSW & Victoria. We currently have a vacancy in our Melbourne office for a Senior Laboratory Technician.
The Senior Laboratory Technician is responsible for the testing and sampling of construction materials in accordance with (but not limited to) Australian, RMS and ASTM standards. They will also be required to work in a team environment alongside other technicians and to assist in the general maintenance of the laboratory
Responsibilities:
- Undertake onsite level 1 testing & reporting for projects as required
- Undertake density testing using nuclear density gauge to determine field wet density
- Undertake sampling from stockpiles at quarries and onsite locations
- Undertake concrete sampling at batch plants and onsite locations
- Undertake in-situ geotechnical testing such as dynamic cone penetrometer testing, and hand shear vane testing
- Prepare samples prior to testing in accordance with their relevant Australian Standards, RMS & other relevant standards as required
- Undertake testing of soil, rock and aggregate
- To prepare and complete both electronic and hardcopy worksheets/ testing schedules for laboratory testing and update laboratory sample tracker for laboratory testing
- To ensure material sampled is accurately labelled and returned in a timely manner to the laboratory for testing
- To be conscious and identify any laboratory or site hazards and report to Laboratory Manager & Laboratory Supervisor and update SWMS as required.
- To undertake on the job training and participate in proficiency testing when required
- To be responsible for your own time management/ activity and quality of your work.
- To understand that work may be required at more than one site and to travel when required
Knowledge and Experience required:
- Great attitude and ability to learn & work in a team environment
- Good computer skills
- Good written & verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to pass a ‘fit to work’ medical & regular drug and alcohol screening
- The position involves manual labour
- Valid Driver’s licence
- White Card
